Are you willing to refresh yourself around you Campus ?? Looking for any picnic spot ?? Then, Windom fall is perfect destination around you BHU South Campus. It is one of the most generally welcomed excursion spots arranged in propinquity of Mirzapur. There are many places around the Rajiv Gandhi South Campus-BHU and in Mirzapur district that can be visited for refreshment. The nearest in one is the windom fall, a place about 2 km from the South Campus, clearly adds to the beauty of nature. The falling water are the more beautiful. The rocks and the variety of Flora, make it seems like a magical spot. At the bottom, there is an excellent opportunity to swim at the base of fall. , so you enjoy the feeling of being close to nature. You can take a dip in water but if you visit the fall during heavy rains, ensure that you avoid swimming or bathing since it can get dangerous.
The waterfall is named after the British gatherer Wyndham. There is a little zoo and youngsters’ stop in vicinity that adds to the magnificence of cookout spot.The cookout spot is regularly frequented by local people.Situated in Kotwa Pandey region, the water in fall comes from the upper Khajuri to lower Khajuri and finally it merges with the Ganges river in the Chunar region. The water falls continuously and is collected in a pond at the base. The fall is surrounded by rocks and lush greenery all around. It is situated at the walking distance from the campus and facility of auto-rickshaw is also available at reasonable fare.
The local people of the districts and also from other districts visit regularly to enjoy it’s beauty. Many students head to water the fall frequently for a refreshing change as it is close to the campus. The fall is located besides the veterinary department of the Rajiv Gandhi South Campus-BHU.
It makes a perfect goal for a trip with friends and family and makes feel rejuvenated. To enjoy the best view and witness it in all its glory, Wyndham fall must be visited during monsoon when the water is flowing in all its might. But it is little bit dangerous, so moving inside the water should be avoided.
The noise of the falling water gives a soothing peace and joy. The flora and fauna around the Wyndham fall is like an additional advantage for people who love nature.
Local shops are available near the Wyndham fall and various tea stalls are also available. There is a parking area outside the main entrance which is lookafter and maintained by the forest department. Inside the fall’s main gate, there is a park for the kids known as Wyndham park being made in the year 1976, 15th August and inaugurated by R S Shukla (IAS) forest secretary. There is a giant slider created in the form of a beautiful elephant is the main attraction for children. Variety of swings and sliders are also present inside the park.
Beside the fall, a bunglow named Wyndham bunglow, now the guest house built in 1914. The foundation stone by laid by Mr. H.R. Hopkins J.C.S. commissioner Benaras in the month of February. You can stay in the guest house but pre-booking should be done. This bunglow was erected by public subscription as a district sanitorius to form a memorial of the long connection with the district of Mr. Percy Wyndham I.E.I.C.S. around the bunglow and park, a huge amount of plants and trees are present which planted and lookafter by the forest department itself. The guards are also present present there for safety.
